Ocean World Marina in Cofresi, near Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic is a large facility that is associated with a time-share group. It has resort accommodation, a casino, nightclub, pool and restaurants. On top of that, it has a sea lion show that runs 3 times a day, 7 days a week. When the sea lions make their entrance, they play the song, “who let the dogs out” – two solid weeks of that was a bit much!
One of the upsides of being stuck at OW was meeting the other cruisers who were also in the same predicament. Life quickly became very social, with day excursions and evening appies + drinks. We hosted a potluck dinner aboard Panache for 14!
Benny used her time in port well. She set up her “pillow factory” and began churning out pillow after pillow until we had a huge mound of about 20 of them. I thought the whole pillow thing was a shore-based phenomena, but I was clearly quite mistaken.
The nightclub had a dinner/show combo and the whole gang went to watch the spectacle. Check out the video. Some of the girls are very talented!
Driving in the DR is risky business. Benny and I took “moto-taxis” to get around. Essentially you ride on the back of a small motorcycle and the driver takes you to your destination. I burned my leg on one of the exhaust pipes, and now have a Dominican memento!
One day the cruising gang went zip-lining in the DR hills. A bunch of old fogies zinging through the forest on cables is quite a sight.
After two weeks of being stuck at the dock, a weather window opened and we jumped on our chance to get underway. Next stop – Puerto Rico!
